Morgan Dempsey Changes Hands

David Durham and Brian Rafn have been named principals at Morgan Dempsey Capital Management (MDCM), in addition to becoming owners of the firm.

Durham, who is director of sales and marketing, and Rafn, a portfolio manager for small/micro-cap value equities, purchased the majority interest from Tom Dempsey, an official announcement from the firm said. Dempsey will continue on at MDCM as a managing director “focusing on client service and helping the business partners grow the firm.” Marc Dion is also a principal at the asset management shop.

Going forward, the Milwaukee, Wis.-based firm plans to place more emphasis on its institutional business, Durham said in the statement.

“Our goal when we purchased this business was to fortify our institutional capabilities and provide Brian and Marc with the support they need to best execute their unique investment strategies,” he said. “We are putting a lot of effort into promoting our small/micro-cap strategy which we feel is extremely suited for institutional investors.”

To help enhance the small/micro-cap product, MDCM plans to hire an additional research analyst/trader, the statement said.
